Hi, I’m Tristan Schaar, a Communication major at the University of North Florida (UNF) in Jacksonville, FL, with a minor in Sport Management and Leadership. I’m passionate about strategic communication, public service, and the dynamic world of sports, all fields where strong teamwork, adaptability, and leadership make a real difference.
One of the most shaping chapters of my journey so far was serving as the Director of Communications for the North Dakota Minority Caucus in the 69th Legislative Assembly. In this role, I led the communication efforts for both the House and Senate Minority Caucuses, crafting messaging strategies, writing press releases, managing media relations, and building a consistent digital presence. It was a fast-paced, high-stakes environment that strengthened my ability to lead under pressure, collaborate with others, and communicate with purpose.
At UNF, I’m further developing these skills through coursework, hands-on projects, and team-based learning, particularly in areas like public relations, leadership, and media strategy. Whether it’s working on a group project or preparing for a future in political or sports communication, I approach every opportunity with a mindset grounded in teamwork, hard work, and a genuine desire to make an impact. Traits that will allow me to help the NSF ND AgTech flourish in the communications department.
