Checking in With Tristan: Visiting the Team On Site

Jan 7, 2026

Working remotely has been a defining part of my internship experience with the NSF ND AgTech Engine. Based in Florida, I’ve had the opportunity to contribute to meaningful AgTech work from afar, collaborating virtually, learning about innovation in agriculture, and gaining real-world experience in a fast-growing field. Recently, however, I had the chance to take that experience one step further by visiting North Dakota State University (NDSU) for a few days and working in the office alongside the team.

Visiting NDSU was an exciting change of pace after working remotely. It was incredibly refreshing to finally put faces to names and meet the people behind the work I’ve been involved in. Everyone at the Engine was welcoming, supportive, and genuinely passionate about advancing agricultural technology. Being in the office allowed me to better understand how the different parts of the Engine collaborate and how my role fits into the bigger picture.

One of the highlights of my visit was getting to know the Engine team on a more personal level. Conversations that usually happen over video calls felt more meaningful in person, and I appreciated the opportunity to learn directly from such knowledgeable and driven individuals. The sense of community and shared purpose within the NSF ND AgTech Engine really stood out to me.

Another unforgettable part of the trip was being invited to participate as a special guest on a podcast episode. During the recording, I had the chance to talk about my experience so far as a remote intern, what I’ve learned, what it’s been like working with the Engine from Florida, and how valuable the internship has been for my personal and professional growth. Being asked to share my perspective made me feel truly valued as part of the team.

Overall, my visit to North Dakota State University reinforced how grateful I am to be part of the NSF ND AgTech Engine. From working remotely to collaborating in person, this internship has given me hands-on experience, meaningful connections, and a deeper appreciation for innovation in agriculture. I’m excited to continue learning, contributing, and growing with the Engine as my journey continues.
